Zhirnovsk (Russian: Жи́рновск) is a town and the administrative center of Zhirnovsky District of Volgograd Oblast, Russia, located on the left bank of the Medveditsa River, which itself flows into the Don River. Zhirnovsk lies 320 kilometers (200 mi) north of Volgograd and 70 kilometers (43 mi) south of its nearest town, Kalininsk, which is in neighboring Saratov Oblast. Population: 16,890 (2010 Census preliminary results); 17,751 (2002 Census); 16,792 (1989 Census).
