Zaporizhia (Ukrainian: Запорі́жжя, transcript. Zaporizhzhia or Zaporizhzhya), or Zaporozhye (Russian: Запоро́жье, transcript. Zaporozh'ye) [formerly Alexandrovsk (Russian: Александровск)] is a city in southeastern Ukraine, situated on the banks of the Dnieper River. It is the administrative center of the Zaporizhia Oblast (province). Currently the city is the sixth largest one in Ukraine and has population of 776,000 people (as of 2011).
