Lakhisarai (archaic spelling: Luckeesarai, pawan dharti) town is the administrative headquarters of Lakhisarai district in Bihar state in eastern India. The town has a population of 77,840 (2001 census). It is well connected by road and rail routes. It is situated on Patna-Howrah main line passing through Kiul junction. NH-80 passes through the town. The town has a number of small scale industrial units, which include iron rod manufacturing, rice mills, sindur (vermilion) factories, drugs manufacturing and insecticide manufacturing units. The rivers, namely the Ganges, Haroohar and Kiul, pass through Lakhisarai district. There is a popular Hindu temple named Ashok Dhaam. . A village named 'Pokhram' in Lakhisarai has a number of temples and pond.
