Himatnagar or Himmatnagar is a town having a municipality in Sabarkantha district in the Indian state of Gujarat. It is the administrative headquarter of the district. The name literally means the "Town of Courage". The town is situated on the bank of the river Hathmati. Himatnagar was named after the King Himmat Singh. There are two palaces in the town of the King Himmat Singh. Motipura, Mehtapura, Mahavirnagar, Pologround are major areas, Navratri, Diwali, Ramzan and Uttrayan are the biggest festivals of the town. It is also believed that the "Agnihotri Shala" was established near Himatnagar during the time of Mahabharata. Himatnagar is also famous for Asia's best Horse Training Centre, as well as it is a Historical City of North Gujarat. Himatnagar has a small Railway Station (Meter gage line) and a GSRTC Bus Depot. Himatnagar is connected with National Highway No.8 (Mumbai to Delhi).
