Gătaia (German: Gattaja; Hungarian: Gátalja) is a town in Timiş County, Banat, western Romania. It is located on the Bârzava River at 52 km (32 mi) from Timişoara and 47 km (29 m) from Reşiţa. It administers five villages: Butin (Temesbökény), Percosova (Perkos; Berkeszfalu), Sculia (Szigetfalu), Şemlacu Mare (Mezősomlyó) and Şemlacu Mic (Vársomlyó). Declared a town in 2004, it also administered four other villages until that time, when they were split off to form Birda Commune.
