Berkane or Berkan (Berber: Berkan, , Arabic: بَركان) is a city in the northeastern Morocco in the area of Trifa, limited by the Mediterranean to its north, the Kiss Oued (Moroccan-Algerian border) and the province of Oujda in the east, the province of Nador to the west, and the province of Taourirt in the south. This county of Berkan belongs to the grand province of Oujda. The population of the city is 80,012 (2004 census), and the citizens are speak Rif-Berber or Morocaan Arabic. They originate from the Bni Iznasen major Berber tribe. The tribe's descendents are also spread over the rest of eastern Morocco as far as Nador and Oujda, and even to western Algeria's Wehran area.
