Bengbu (Chinese: 蚌埠, pinyin: Bèngbù), formerly known as P'engpu and Peng-pu, is a prefecture-level city with a population of 3,164,467 at the last census (including rural residents) in northern Anhui Province, People's Republic of China. Its name means "Oyster Wharf" in Chinese, echoing its former reputation as a freshwater pearl fishery.
