Jinning (traditional Chinese: 金寧鄉; simplified Chinese: 金宁乡; pinyin: Jīnníng Xiāng) is one of the islands of the Kinmen (Quemoy) group. It is in the Taiwan Strait, on the coast of Fujian. It has a population of 16,849[when?] and an area of 29.8540 km2 (11.5267 sq mi). Geographically it is very near to Xiamen (Amoy). Administratively the island forms the Jinning Township of Kinmen County, Fujian Province of the Republic of China. The People's Republic of China claims Kinmen County (Jinmen County in pinyin) as part of the Quanzhou Prefecture-level city of its Fujian Province.
